During the Great Depression of the 1930s, the National Park Service hired Pablita Velarde, a young artist from Santa Clara Pueblo, to work at Bandelier National Monument creating paintings of pueblo life. Pablita produced a fine body of work in her few years at the park and went on to become one of New Mexico's premier painters. In collaboration with Pablita and the National Park Service at Bandelier, The Friends of Bandelier have reproduced one of her loveliest and liveliest early paintings.
